(Ann Arbor, MI- July 2, 2018) — The National Wildlife Federation’s Great Lakes Regional Center has launched a new podcast focusing on conservation issues from around the country with a hunting and fishing perspective, called Conservation Country.

“Hunting and fishing rely on thriving fish and wildlife, and understanding what it takes to conserve them is part of being a complete hunter and angler.” said Drew YoungeDyke, host of Conservation Country and communications coordinator for the National Wildlife Federation’s Great Lakes Regional Center. “Conservation Country explores the biggest conservation issues facing our country’s fish and wildlife through interviews with the men, women and organizations working to solve them.”

The first five episodes, released last week, feature topics ranging from Asian carp in Kentucky Lake and threats to the Mississippi River delta to western public lands issues like National Monuments, Wilderness designation and sage grouse conservation. Guests include Bill Cooksey of NWF’s Vanishing Paradise program, Marcia Brownlee of Artemis Sportswomen, Idaho Wildlife Federation executive director Brian Brooks, Mississippi Wildlife Federation executive director Lindsey Lemmons, NWF public lands field director Andrew Black and NWF senior western sporting campaigns manager Aaron Kindle.

Conservation Country is a great look at the depth of the stories involved in conservation and the people doing the work. I’m proud that Artemis was able to be a part of it,” said Marcia Brownlee, program manager for the National Wildlife Federation’s Artemis Sportswomen program, who appears on the second episode of the podcast.

New episodes will be released every two weeks. Upcoming episodes include the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation’s Conservation Leadership Corps and Nebraska’s Vamos A Pescar program.

Conservation Country is free to stream and available on iTunes, Stitcher and Podbean. It is supported in part by a conservation partnership between the National Wildlife Federation and fishing apparel maker Rep Your Water, announced earlier this year.

Founded in 1936, the National Wildlife Federation is the nation’s largest grassroots conservation organization, representing over 6 million members and supporters and 51 state and territorial affiliates. Its mission is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world.
