Go On-Demand Or Go Home

What you want, when you want it.

Sounds so simple and convenient right?
That’s how the concept of on-demand was born. The backbone of this ideology is to provide users with utilities exactly in the quantity they want and at a price acceptable to them, as quickly as possible.

The early adopters of this ideology were the millennials, the original flagbearers of the motto ‘Never Settle’. They are the ‘now’ people. Saving for the future isn’t something ideal to them. They value experience over ownership. They like to try new places. They strive to avoid long term commitments.

Like a product or service, an idea once adopted, even minimally so, manages to gain acceptance over a larger group, in the course of time. Hence, these principles don’t just pertain to the millennials anymore. There’s a wider bracket of individuals who relate to and practise these ideals. Therefore, it’s time for the incumbents to incorporate the facets of flexibility and on-demand into their models or be prepared to lose.

In an era of cut-throat competition, trial usage and adoption is the primary driving force of any business looking to expand their target market. But how do you promote trials? You personalize the offering. You make the product or service easily accessible to the user. You offer flexibility. You combine time utility with product utility and pitch the perfect solution to make the ends meet.

Billion dollar companies all around the world employ this technique. Uber categorizes its partner drivers across several categories to ensure that there’s something available for everyone. Ranging from low cost economy cabs to luxury sedans, a lot is on offer. When Facebook wanted to push users to use its app, it offered two variants. The general app carried extra features over and above the web platform for advanced users, while Facebook Lite had common features for basic users. Going by the same principle, we at Nwook provide access to co-working and co-studying spaces at hourly rates for flexible users along with packages for regular users. There’s on-demand access to gyms & swimming pools for the fitness freaks and the water babies respectively.

Feasibility and accessibility are the two pillars that support the two-pronged tower of adoption and acceptability. Only through flexible offerings can you increase the viability of catering to a bigger group of individuals. Only through on-demand can you reduce the lead time in product usage and provide better access. In a world where almost everything can be substituted, it is only by combining the two that you can positively leverage your position as a market player.
