Check out this cool opportunity for non-UBC students…

At nwPlus, innovation and creativity are some of our core values. We’re constantly on the lookout for fresh ideas and new ways to increase our reach, even to communities across the world. We’re currently hiring for our Campus Ambassador Program, a brilliant opportunity for non-UBC students to get involved in the hackathon community and the tech world. Here’s what you’ll do.

  • Work with our Marketing Team to promote HackCamp, nwHacks, and cmd-f, as well as all other nwPlus events and initiatives on your home campus!
  • Collaborate with Campus Ambassadors from other schools to develop effective marketing strategies and help grow the hackathon and tech community.
  • Reach out to student-run clubs and organizations on your campus/high school to promote nwPlus events through cross-promotion and online marketing.

Your responsibilities and time within the Campus Ambassador role can be super flexible. If these responsibilities sound like something you may want to try out, we encourage you to apply! Let us know if you have any new ideas or projects that you want to bring to life through nwPlus, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

cmd-f 2023

Not convinced yet? Here are our top three reasons why you should apply to be a Campus Ambassador today!

1. Guaranteed attendance at nwPlus hackathons and events.

Our hackathons are the biggest in Western Canada! We receive a large amount of applications to each of our events every year (which have limited spots available!). As a Campus Ambassador for nwPlus, you’ll get guaranteed participation at each of our hackathons (HackCamp, nwHacks, and cmd-f*) as a hacker or volunteer.

The full hackathon experience includes:

  • Opening ceremony with talks by industry professionals.
  • Workshops and skill building led by sponsors and experienced nwPlus members.
  • Provided lunch, dinner, and snacks (energy drinks!).
  • Fun mini-events — activities, midnight snacks, and contests!
  • Demos and presentation of hackathon projects.
  • Closing ceremony recognizing winning projects across several categories.

*Note that cmd-f is a hackathon celebrating underrepresented genders in tech. Hacker participation at the event will only be open to audiences that identify accordingly.

2. The opportunity to grow your professional network.

nwPlus: Our team is filled with diverse individuals who come both technical and non-technical backgrounds. As a part of this team, you’ll get to make invaluable connections with like-minded tech enthusiasts who have a passion for creativity in tech. And if you’re located in/around Vancouver, you’ll be able to get to know our team through a few fun socials!

Other Campus Ambassadors: Work with a group of students from across the province or even in different countries. In the past, we have had ambassadors from Cornell University, University of Victoria, Thompson Rivers University, and more!

Hackathons: Whether it’s your team members, an experienced mentor, or an industry professional, hackathons are a great place to meet and work with people. Check out Reworkd AI’s story of how they built a YC-backed startup from a nwHacks project!

3. Extensive marketing experience in a team environment.

We work hard to organize our hackathons and events! As a Campus Ambassador, you’ll develop skills and creativity in event promotion through social media posts and word-of-mouth. You’ll also gain valuable outreach experience by collaborating with student-run clubs and organizations on your campus through cross-promotion and online marketing. Working with our team will allow you to develop a strong mind for marketing strategies, specifically for the hackathon and tech community!
