User experience (UX) refers to a person’s emotions and attitudes about using a particular product, system or service. It includes the practical, experiential, affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of human-computer interaction and product ownership.

User experience is about how the user interacts with and experiences the product.

In this article based on the real life experience, which the user had experienced during withdraw or deposit the cash in the ATM’s.

Everyone has an experience in working with ATM’s, what does the UX plays here did any one noted?

There they are using the numeric keypad style which is using for the calculator. There are three type of action buttons are there in it

  1. Cancel (cancel the whole transaction)
  2. Clear (clear the current entered value)
  3. Enter (to proceed to next step)
  4. And one empty button

Does this button plays any role in the part of UX, the answer is obviously yes

Problem:

  1. In consistency in button placement
  2. Button ordering
  3. Button using weightage

Ißsue:

In the ATM centre of the particular bank, there is two machine which has an inconsistent button placement.

Usually I was using the Machine 1, but one day I was in emergency at the time machine was occupied so, I have tried with the Machine 2.

In the nervous, I have miss typed the amount entered, I have usually use the top right for clear but now I tried the same in the Machine 2. Unfortunately my transition was canceled. I was so frustrated because of inconsistent button placement.

Solutions:

Nø1:

When applying the weightage to the button based on the usage, the order must be in Cancel, Clear, Empty, Enter.

Option Nø1

Nø 2:

Since every one has well experienced in using the calculator. There they have used a large button concept to fill the empty area, this may suits well for the ATM’s too.

Conclusion:

From the two options, the option two plays the best role. Though, every bank has different button patterns. But there should not be the different button patters for each machine of the same bank.

UX is consider not only for the buttons, it may applied for the each and every products like banking softwares, mobile app, bank hardware, etc…

Products are made in the factory, but brands are created in the mind.
