Get Out From Your Cave
Believe it or not, i was the most introverty introvert
I still remember how was my first day of work like, for a person who was naturally shy and introverted, I cringed, as I became the center of attention since i was the “new guy” at that time. There I was, just sat behind the iMac, thinking about what i have to do. “Do i have to introduce myself or just sit here until someone come over me and introduce them self first?” I was not at all confident, feeling un-secure since it was my first job. At times, it seemed like it was me against the rest of the world.
Back in my high school life, I was even afraid to hear my name called out in class in case I had to answer any questions. Even when i have to chat/call someone, i was afraid to do that. All i think was like “what if i bother him/her?”. As time goes by, i realize that all those insecurities made me a super introvert person. I do have a lot of friends, but i never talk about my personal stuff to anyone even to my girlfriend back then. My social life was just about happiness and having fun. The worst part is i used to be an anti-social, i stay in my social comfort zone don’t want to try to make a new friend.
I am not really sure what made me choose to act-as-an-extrovert in the first place, but i think i nailed it! lol. All i know that having those insecurities as a person is not a good feeling. I am not saying that an extrovert is better than an introvert, i just want to share my experience because I think it can gives hope to anyone else who has the same insecurities as i was. I believe theres someone out there who want to get out from their cave but don’t have the gut.
What People Think of You is None of Your Business
I know its cliche, but seriously you can’t please everyone. When you’re too focused on living up to other people’s standards, you are not spending enough time raising your own. Some people may talk behind you, complain and judge. But for the most part, It’s your life, you write your own chapter, your own journey.
Life is All About Learning
You’ll meet lots of people who won’t like you and who will judge you. Negative people do come into our lives, and they will doubt what you can accomplish and drag you down. You need those kind of people to make you grow, just learn from them. In the end, You’ll meet some people who you can trust and support you. Once you’re truly free, you will shrug and move on because you’re happy with who you are.
Accept the Worst Case Scenario
I know we can physically force yourself to shake your head but how to stop brain from creating thoughts about what if everyone’s judging you? The only thing to help is you have to accept it. Theres no need to overthink about things that not necessarily happen. Just deal with it, once you accept the worst thing that can happen, you can do anything.
Be Mindful and Present.
Look what’s going on around you. Some times insecurities consists of worrying about things that haven’t happened yet and may never happen. Pay attention to the moment and let the future happen. Being present in the moment will help you interact much more effectively with others. Dont overthink, just dont
Stay Off Your Phone
Sometimes, phone can be like a security blanket. We hide behind it when we feel uncomfortable. It may be hard but when you meet someone new, its better to start open a conversation with them than stay on your phone doing nothing. It sounds more fun and polite, right? If you still overthink? look at #1. Believe me, it’ll help.
You Are Not Alone
Realize you’re not the only one. There are lots of people who feel a bit anxious in social situations. I’m sure you’re not the only one in the room.
Once you start to change those behaviors, you’ll start to change the way you see yourself. Getting to know yourself is important because when you know yourself pretty well, you will easily know your strength and weakness. Its important for you as a person, and of course for your career too. Do you consider yourself an extrovert or an introvert? Have you ever made a change from one to the other?
