Design Challenge

Hostar Disney wants to enhance its user experience by revamping the watchlist feature, which allows users to save and keep track of their favourite shows and movies. The current design lacks personalisation and does not provide intuitive way for users to manage their watchlist effectively. Your task is to redesign the watchlist feature to improve its usability and make it more engaging for Hotstar users.

Objective

To create user centric solutions that addresses the pain points of existing watchlist feature.

Research and Analysis

To understand user needs and pain points, I conducted user research through surveys, interviews, and usability testing. The findings revealed several key insights:

  1. The current implementation of content categorization in the watchlist is not optimal, leading to difficulties in organizing saved content effectively.
  2. The interface for adding and removing content from the watchlist lacks intuitiveness, especially with the cumbersome one-at-a-time removal process, posing a challenge to users.
  3. Users have expressed keen interest in receiving personalised recommendations based on their watched shows, enhancing their content discovery experience.
  4. Effective content organisation is crucial to manage and rearrange the content according to their preferences.
  5. Personalization is a key factor as users desire the ability to customize their watchlist based on their individual interests, moods, or specific preferences.

Design Solutions

Based on the research insights,I developed a design solution that addressed the identified pain points and aligned with Hotstar objectives.

  1. User Friendly Interface

I designed an intuitive interface that allowed user to easily add, remove content in their watchlist. User can remove the content at once making the experience effortless.

2. Organisation of content.

To showcase the content in form of categorised manner, I’ve introduced features like tags which categorise the content based on preferences. The interface includes drag and drop functionality enabling users to rearrange items effortlessly.

3. Personalisation

To enhance personalisation, I incorporated features that enabled users to create wishlist. This allowed users to curate their watchlist according to their unique interest and discover content effectively.

4. Recommendation Integration

To improve content discovery personalised recommendation were integrated into the wishlist feature. Related shows and movies were displayed based on users watchlist history and viewing pattern. This feature encouraged users to explore new content while still maintaining control over their personalise watchlist.

5. Seamless Integration

The redesigned watchlist feature seamlessly integrated with other aspects of the platform. It interacted withe search functionality allowing users to search and watch content easily.

6. Mark as Watched

To further enhance user engagement, I introduced a “Mark as Watched” option. This allowed users to keep track of the shows and movies they had already seen, avoiding any confusion or repeated viewing.

Conclusion

Through user research and iteractive design the watchlist feature successfully addressed user need and pain points providing an intuitive and personalised experience. By prioritising for personalisation, recommendations integration, i’ve enhanced engagement and overall experience for the users.
