Nowadays I am working on a social product and before designing I did some user and product research. For product research I studied Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Snapchat features. Most common feature of all product is “Story”.

Almost every famous social plate form except Twitter has story feature. What I observe that if you want to post or add a story you have to follow some steps. First you will open story feature, take photo or shoot video or also you can choose from gallery then you will write something, choose a filter or sticker and you will publish or post it. There are a lot of more details but I count basic steps.

Open > Choose or Take > Stylise > Publish

What I learn from this that users are very simple and they don’t want complexity that’s why all these social products have same flow for story feature.

“Users are simple and they want simple”

But who makes complexity? Mostly product designers or ux designers makes complexity because they want their product different and extraordinary. On other hand users wants simplicity and they assume that everything is same. As a ux designers we can help users to do their task easy and live in simplicity. We can learn from previous research and use them in our products with little bit makeup.
