01. Problem

At the beginning of each new semester or school year, teachers are faced with the challenge of remembering names for a large number of new students.

Persona :

This persona will represent a potential teacher who’s facing this problem.

Damien : On his 27, Damien loves his job as much as James his cat. He’s looking for a way to learn each student’s name easily and quickly at the start of school.

Job Story :

Outcome : The teacher can create a good relationship with his students and he can focus on giving them the best education and not trying to recall their names all the time.

02. Instruction

Design an experience to help an educator match faces to names, with the goal of shortening the time needed to reach complete un-aided accuracy.

03. My process

In order to better memorize things, we have to associate something familiar or easy to remind to the thing we want to remember (read the article about Visualization & Association). Like for myself, when I was learning Katakana, to remember them I associated for each syllabe an animal, a form or even a number, e.g: き(ki)= face’s man, マ(MU) = cow, ら(ra) = number 5 and so on.

Associate a world to a picture is more easier to remember

So, in order to find a solution and resolve this issu, I have to put myself as a teacher :

  1. for each level of study (university, school…),
  2. for each number of students (a short, average or large class),
  3. to create a good relationship with the students.

04. List of ideas

As a former student, I know how it is difficult for a teacher to remember names among a large number of students from different cultures and countries.

Besides, in order to be more closer with theirs studients and provide a better experience, the teacher should ask to each of them what they wrote on their paper aloud.

Therefore, I listed some ideas that can be a good start to find the best solution :

  1. A face book which will include : a face + a name + a favorite thing by theme (sport, music, serie, game…).
  2. A personalised card to complete by : a name + a favorite thing to choose between sport, music, serie, food or travel + a color + something special about the student.

Task Flow :

The task flow will help me to better understand the process and the transition between the two entities.

  • Student:
  • Teacher :

05. Solutions

Gather the two solutions into one in order to have a better outcome for both, the teacher and students. First of all, we’ll need the personalised card and then the face book with the results.

By doing this method and process, the teacher will have a double check to remember each name associated to a particular theme at the beginning with the appeal and at the end by completing a face book.

This method can be iterated by changing themes, types of support (instead of papers it can be an app or a website).
