NYC Opportunity has just released its latest annual report, “Reducing Poverty. Advancing Equity. The Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity 2018–2019 Annual Report.

The report, our first digital annual report, highlights nine initiatives that reflect the broad work of our office. In addition to being important in their own right, these nine projects illustrate the different ways that we put our principles into action: investing in programs that work to allocate resources for better results; improving service delivery to be more coordinated and effective; and better understanding and developing solutions to poverty, equity, and economic mobility.

Our team, now 60+ strong, is proud to help New York City use evidence and innovation to reduce poverty and increase equity. We work across agencies with City leaders on program and policy development, service delivery, and budget decisions. Over the last two years, NYC Opportunity has launched 20 new programs, 3 new digital products, and completed 22 evaluation reports and research studies to inform the City’s poverty and equity work. And poverty is declining in New York City; the most recent NYC Government Poverty Rate — the City’s benchmark, developed by NYC Opportunity — fell to 19 percent, matching the lowest level since this measure began in 2006.

NYC Opportunity is proud of the contributions that our work, including the projects described in the annual report, is making to this progress and to broadening opportunities for all New Yorkers.
