Geographic Filtering
The latest way to filter data on the Capital Planning Platform
We’re excited to announce one of the most requested features on the Capital Planning Platform: geographic filtering! There are now three new ways filter data on the Capital Planning Platform:
- by administrative boundary
- by radius around a selected point
- by radius around an address
Like with all filters, the selected data can be downloaded, allowing planners to get exactly the data they need for further analysis.
Filtering by Administrative Boundaries
You can now filter by common administrative boundaries. The platform can filter by any number of polygons from the same boundary type, but not two polygons from different types. In other words, you can filter for all facilities in Brooklyn and Queens, but not in Brooklyn and Manhattan Community District 2.
To filter by administrative boundary, first select the type of boundary you need (ex. Borough, Community District, NTA, etc), then select one or more geographies.
At launch, we’re including the ability to filter by six administrative boundary types. These include:
- Boroughs
- Community Districts
- Neighborhood Tabulation Areas
- City Council Districts
- 2010 Census Tracts
- School Districts
- Police Precincts
Filtering by Radius
You can also now filter by the radius around a point or an address. The radius can be any size defined in feet, miles, meters, or kilometers.
To filter by radius around a point, first click on any point or polygon displayed on the map. The Filter by Radius button will activate. Click to filter.
To filter by radius around an address, first search for an address. Once the address marker is on the map, click the activated Filter by Radius button. You’ll notice the address marker icon in the button.
We’re excited to see what (citizen and professional) planners do with this new tool!
