We’re hiring a Geographic Data Specialist to grow NYC Planning’s Geographic Research team. We’re looking for someone highly motivated and innovative to continue to improve the data landscape at NYC Planning.

You will have a role in maintaining critical citywide datasets used by
citywide geocoding systems and 911 dispatch, including street centerlines, administrative and political boundaries, and building addresses, as well as improving update procedures and quality control processes. You should understand geospatial data, how to improve its quality and accessibility, and be excited about sharing your knowledge of data with others. If you’re passionate about data quality, interested in modernizing procedures, and in shaping the future of data at city planning, you should definitely apply.

About NYC Planning’s Geographic Research team

The Enterprise Data Management (EDM) team is responsible for creating and implementing the agency’s data strategy and governance policy; updating and maintaining core citywide datasets in support of city operations; and improving the creation, use, and availability of datasets within the agency. The EDM team ensures that DCP Planners have access to quality data to inform decisions that ultimately shape NYC. The Geographic Research team, a unit within EDM, is responsible for the integrity of critical citywide datasets used by citywide geocoding systems and 911 dispatch, including street centerlines; administrative and political boundaries; and building addresses. Our data products and data infrastructure support a myriad of data systems and applications used by City Planning (such as GOAT), other city agencies, and the public.

Geographic Research is a mission critical team where you’ll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact. We are currently looking to modernize our existing production and quality assurance processes and systems. We’re going to train you and trust your opinion to help the team make the right decisions. You’ll be empowered to dive into our processes, test new tools, and give your thoughts on how we can do better.

We are only a small part of NYC Planning, New York City’s planning agency, one of the largest city planning agencies in the world. You’ll have a chance to work with brilliant colleagues, many of them renowned experts in their fields.
