NYC Values Has Officially Launched
After 10 weeks and countless hours, NYC Values has officially launched. Four months ago, Ted Cruz made a seemingly simple statement that started a social media firestorm — and it still hasn’t stopped burning. What are New York values? It’s time for you to tell us!
Everyone has an idea of what New York values are, whether they were born in the five boroughs, arrived from another state or country, or came for vacation. People could argue forever about what the city’s values are. But one thing that isn’t up for debate: no one forgets their time spent in New York City.
NYC Values was made by a group of 12 graduate journalism students, only three of whom are from the United States. Two of us come from Brazil; two of us come from China. Others come from Egypt, Turkey, Argentina, Germany, and Canada.
With such an international group, we all had our own ideas of what New York values are. But in a city of 8 million, the 12 of us could not define what NYC holds near and dear. So we set out to find six stories, each of them different from the last.
We wanted to emphasize different sides of the city. And to do that, we needed to represent different nationalities, different genders, and different generations. We needed to see our city through someone else’s eyes. The stories we produced were chosen based on these ideas. The discussion of New York values is based on your responses.
Positive or negative, we want to know what you think New York values are. Are the people ambitious, or are they cutthroat? Is it a city of free expression, or lost in liberal ideas?
Go to nyc-values.com and experience New York City in a new light. Navigate the site by using our unique 360º menu. Watch our six videos for an intimate look at the lives of New Yorkers. They come from all walks of life, and all ended up in NYC.
Watch their stories and share the values you find as you go along. But don’t stop there. Comment on our Facebook page and use the hashtag #nycvalues on Twitter, Instagram, anywhere.
What are New York values? There is no one right answer. But with your help, we can improve discussion around the subject.
