Solana Goes Down

Solana blockchain decided to take a 7-hour nap this past weekend, for about 7-hours. The network was hit with another outage. Solana processes an average of 2,700 transactions per second, with an upper peak of over 710,000 transactions per second. On Saturday, the network was hit with millions of transactions per second and brought it to a screeching halt.

At first, it was rumored it was a DDoS attack, but it turns out the cause may have been bots trying to mint a new NFT on the network. Oops.

As validators ran out of memory, the network went down for 7-hours. The good news is that this issue is now forcing new changes to combat these problems in the future.
