Will the next NFT artist be an AI?

AI text-to-image generators continue to evolve and gain popularity. AI generators can now read in any form of text and create a scary accurate image that matches the description feed to the tool. They also can create art in a variety of different styles such as painting, photographs, or digital art.

Google originally was a leader in the space when they created DALL-E, a OpenAI tool that was used to create AI generated art. The tool has since evolved into the new version called Imagen which appears to be leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessors. The following images were created by the latest release.

With enough creativity, and trial and error, it may not be long before the first true AI-generated piece of art sells at the auction house for millions of dollars, starting the inevitable AI takeover of humanity.

Obviously, the art used in marketing and news is some of the best work created. A lot of the work created can be pretty messy, blurry, and just not plain good. If I had to guess, NFT artists have a year or two before they run the risk of being replaced by AI. For now, Fiver developers and artists may be the biggest threat to flooding an already overcrowded market.
