We were honored to celebrate all of the students who participated in our 35th annual Water Resources Art and Poetry Contest. We received entries from more than 1,300 second through twelfth grade students in New York City and the East and West-of-Hudson Watersheds. Student entries beautifully depicted a genuine understanding of and appreciation for New York’s water resources. This year, we selected about 100 contest winners, called Water Champions.

The Water Champions were recognized during a virtual ceremony held on April 28 that included a presentation of the winning art and poetry, and featured a special poetry performance by Serena Yang, 2021 NYC Youth Poet Laureate. You can view the artwork and poetry of all the 2021 Water Champions on our Flickr page.

All of this year’s participants submitted impressive works of art and poetry. Through paintings, haikus, collages, videos and more, students creatively depicted the importance of water, NYC’s drinking water supply and wastewater treatment system, marine ecosystems, climate resiliency, and environmental stewardship.

We’d like to extend a special thank you to all of the students, teachers, families, and school administrators who participated in this year’s contest!
