Joseph Sedita and Anthony Amabile hold their trophies after winning the competition.

Huge congratulations to Joseph Sedita and Anthony Amabile for winning the Hydrant Hysteria competition during the American Water Works Association New York Section’s annual conference held from April 12–14 in Saratoga Springs!!

Left: The team sits ready before the clock starts to assemble the hydrant; Right: The team in action assembling a hydrant in Saratoga Springs.

The speedy duo, both supervisors from our Brooklyn Repair team, raced other teams from across the state to assemble a fire hydrant as quickly as possible. The fast-paced pair clocked in at impressive time of 1:51, clinching first place while also showcasing the skills our crews routinely use to maintain and operate New York City’s 109,000 fire hydrants.

The first place NY State first place trophy awarded to Sedita and Amabile.

Credit also goes to John Thomas, District Supervisor and President of Local 1322, who coached the team to victory and was instrumental in organizing the annual Inter-Borough Hydrant Hysteria Competition at the Queens Training Center. The team now has the honor of representing New York State and New York City at the American Water Works Association’s national conference, held June 12–15 in San Antonio, Texas. Good luck guys!
