Our City Cleanup Corps workers were honored on December 2 during a recognition ceremony held at the Newtown Creek Nature Walk in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Approximately 80 workers attended the event where Commissioner Sapienza, Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives J. Phillip Thompson, Chris Neale, Acting Director, NYC Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development, and Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations Deputy Commissioner Tasos Georgelis praised the group’s dedicated efforts after they helped clean debris from over 150 flood affected homes following Hurricane Ida.

DEP Cleanup Corps members performed an array of tasks including painting fire hydrants and cleaning rain gardens and bluebelt wetlands.

Additionally, program participants labored throughout the five boroughs over the last several months and their hard work resulted in 17,944 hydrants painted, 9,198 catch basin messages stenciled, 40,710 rain garden cleanings conducted and 55,572 bags of trash removed. Crews were also responsible for maintaining Bluebelts, including weeding, mowing, and clearing litter.

THANK YOU for your service!
