When it comes to cities facing the challenges of ever more frequent extreme weather events, New York City and Copenhagen are at the forefront of climate change adaptation. Our cities have been working together since 2015—exchanging information and research on the development of urban solutions to heavier downpours (also called cloudbursts), rising temperatures, and rising sea levels, among other challenges that come with a changing climate.

While we have OneNYC, the city’s plan to become the most resilient, equitable and sustainable city in the world, Copenhagen is working towards their own ambitious goal of net carbon neutrality—producing more renewable energy than it consumes—by 2025.

On Friday, March 29, 2019, we renewed this partnership anew.

Signing ceremony with Commissioner Sapienza, BEPA Director of Integrated Water Management Alan Cohn, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Resiliency Jainey Bavishi, and Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability Mark Chambers.
