Two workers at the Owls Head Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility recently rescued a red-tailed hawk! On October 13, Sewage Treatment Worker Chris Bosco spotted the bird in distress in one of the Bay Ridge plant’s aeration tanks and grabbed a pool net to scoop the bird out before it drowned. Bosco brought the hawk to the tool room where Supervisor of Stockworkers Jennie Saldana washed and cleaned the sludge from the hawk’s feathers. The hawk was given space, provided a heat lamp to dry, and fed some food. The hawk quickly regained its strength and Jennie called the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, who sent over a biologist to retrieve the bird and provide further care. Great job Chris and Jennie!
