A mission to the moon🚀
A part of team Nymble went on a very special road trip recently.
It’s not every day that your country, with an excellent space program, launches a rover mission to the moon #Chandrayaan2 AND opens up visitor passes.
We jumped at this opportunity to witness the historical moment, in person.
Now, for the uninitiated, India has one of the best space programs in the world and a bloody efficient one at that.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made history in 2013 when its maiden attempt for a Mars mission was successful. You might have noticed this picture of scientists cheering and celebrating after the orbiter entered Mars’ orbit successfully.
Here’s something about Chandrayaan 2, India’s second lunar mission.
Also the launcher vehicle The GSLV Mk-III is India’s most powerful launchers to date.
Naturally, we were beyond thrilled to go watch the launch of Chandrayaan 2.
Nothing prepared us for the adrenaline rush at the viewing gallery. It was almost like a stadium, with people cheering and waving the Indian flag.
So the 3 hours we had to kill before the launch didn’t seem like long. We patiently watched the timer count down, slowly. We cheered on and listened to all the school kids giving speeches about what made this lunar mission special.
We were in for a surprise when the countdown stopped at T-56 mins. The mission was rescheduled due to a technical snag.
Turns out the scientists managed to fix the issue (a leak in the cryogenic upper stage of the rocket) within just 24 hours and scheduled the launch 7 days later, just another reason why ISRO is awesome!
Although we never got to see the launch, this road trip to see the Chandrayaan2 was special for us here at Nymble, for more than one reason.
It’s been 3 years since Nymble Labs started and this was one of our very first trips outside of work.
As a tech company based in India, technological milestones of India are moments we hold proudly.
Going on a trip with your coworkers might not seem like a big deal to many of you, but some of these very first fleeting moments of a young company like ours have to be celebrated, no? The trip was a great team effort in hindsight. We aligned to what we did the best: from one figuring out the logistics to one organising the itinerary, one played all our favourite tracks throughout the drive (trust the interns!).
Being uncomfortable soon led way to many inside jokes. For some of us who joined just a week ago, this was like a session of know-your-coworkers on steroids.
We made some incredible memories.
And it helps us work with each other, better. Especially considering Nymble is a very young team. (PS: Shameless plug, we’re looking for some food-loving people to join us.)
But enough about us, let’s get back to Chandrayaan 2.
Despite the launch not happening we were still in peak enthusiasm to get back to work the next day. (Sleep-deprived? Yep. Spirit deprived? Nah!)
Good news, the Chandrayaan 2 launch was rescheduled to be launched today and we’re too vested in it to give up now. We did watch a live stream from our office, cheering along.
