Dear First-Year Self,

Welcome to college! I know you’ve heard it before, but really try to make the most of your college experience. Try to make friends with both people in and outside your classes, get involved with clubs and organizations you enjoy being part of, and have fun along the way. Listen to yourself and try not to stress. Remember to have a balance between school and your outside life. Try to enjoy all the experiences you can gain from college and living in New York City as much as you can.

Form and continue developing relationships with professors and peers. Don’t be too shy to be friendly. You’ll learn that as important as your academic work is to you, the most joy you’ll find during your time in college is from the people you spend time with. Remember to show the people who mean the most to you how much you appreciate them. And listen to your mom’s advice about treating yourself like you’d treat a friend.

Here’s a little preview of some of the exciting events you’ll experience during your time in college. You’ll study abroad in London, you’ll become the president of a club on campus, you’ll complete a senior research project, and most importantly, you’ll get engaged to the love of your life. Of course, not everything you experience in the next for years will be exciting, but remember that Thank G-d you have a lot to look forward to.

Love,

Your Future Self
