Innovative public spaces act as magnets to gather, socialise and travel through. They make a city so enjoyable and play a vital role in the liveability of a city.

I’m excited about the new City of Melbourne Greenline project which focuses on revitalising the Northbank area of the Yarra River via a 4km pedestrian and cycle connection path along riverfront areas.

The Yarra River flows through the heart of Melbourne and is part of the city’s identity.

Over the years the Yarra has suffered periods of neglect but this project will elevate its historical, cultural and environmental significance to a level that is deserved.

I love that particular focus will be on protecting, recognising and promoting Aboriginal culture, heritage and place.

The network of connected green spaces along the city’s edge aims to reposition the river as a culturally significant place and an important environmental resource for Melbourne.

Enhancing ‘Place’ is one of the project themes along with providing amenity and experiences that support community health and well being.

The O initiative can help reflect and celebrate some of the cultural narratives that the Greenline project aims to showcase via the blank canvas that the O fountain provides. The picture above is a great example of what was achieved in the Moreland City Council by Yarra Valley Water.

Plus we offer a way to provide a contemporary amenity — a water refilling station — creating appealing access to fresh water, supporting community health.

Sounds like a good way to enhance the unique character of the Greenline project to me, what do you say?
