the secret of the universe

it seems like the world is in on a big secret,
and i wasn’t invited to hear it.
what is it, you might wonder?
the mystery of the identity of Jack

from young,
kids talk about him:
begging him to be nimble
begging him to be quick
bidding him jump over the
candlestick

then watching him climb up the hill
with Jill
and watching as he tumbles down
and breaks his crown

suddenly he’s up in the clouds
and cutting a beanstalk down
chased by giants
praised by defiant
kids all over the world

well, at least the guy’s got charisma
i’ll give him that much
adults and children from 90 years old to five
absolutely adore the guy
these adults, they name
hammers, knives
a card game
for goodness’ sake,
even a prickly fruit after him
oh, let’s not forget
the most important thing
i bet
is not to be
a jack of all trades,
master of none
at the end of this all,
he sounds like a pretty fun
guy.

in conclusion, Jack is a
stick in the mud
brother
who’s most probably an actor
for a serial killer
of giants
with hammers, knives, cards and prickly fruits
as his modus operandi
but this guy is pretty funky
he’s multi-
talented,
(but some say good for nothing)
am i right?
have i finally found the secret of the universe?
or am i a jackanape
who’s nowhere close?
