Matt Chapman Wins AL Rawlings Platinum Glove Award

Oakland A’s third baseman Matt Chapman has won the 2018 American League Rawlings Platinum Glove Award, presented by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

In his first full Major League season, Chapman, 25, led all Major Leaguers regardless of position in defensive runs saved (29). He led Major League third basemen in ultimate zone rating (10.9), total chances (484), assists (331), and zone rating (.853). He was tied for first in the American League in out of zone plays (61), second in putouts and third in double plays (37). Based on the final SABR Defensive Index, Chapman also led the AL with a 21.9 SDI.

This is the first career Platinum Glove for Chapman, who also won his first career Rawlings Gold Glove and Wilson Defensive Player of the Year award. Chapman is the first Oakland Athletics player to win the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award.
