Christmas at Oasis

Keep up to date with all the key events throughout December and into 2018

We love celebrating Christmas together at Oasis, and this year there’s added reason for celebration as it’s our first Christmas together in our own home; our new building on South Street, Harborne. Take a look below for all the key information about what’s coming up in December and into the new year.

First Sunday in our New Home!

Sunday 3rd December: Come and join us as we gather for the first time at our new building on South Street, Harborne. We’ll be celebrating the story of our adventure together this year, and the joy of new life as we dedicate Timothy Birchenough. We’re starting with our ‘Connect’ hangout time to begin with, so do join us from 10am for drinks and snacks before the itself meeting gets underway at 10:30am.

OKC & Engage Youth Present…

Sunday 10th December: A fun-filled all-age celebration of Christmas led by the Oasis Kids Club and our Engage Youth Group. Past years have seen games, quizzes, brain-teasers and the OKC team eating baby food, so there’s sure to be something for everyone! 10am for a 10:30am start at South Street, Harborne.

Evening Carols

Sunday 10th December: An exploration of the Christmas message themed around the word ‘Peace’. There’ll be carols, performance songs from the brand-new Oasis Choir, spoken word and much more; all accompanied by mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine. Come along and find a seat ready for a 6:30pm start.

Nativity Who?

Sunday 17th December: Always a highlight of the festive schedule, Nativity Who returns with the usual mix of fancy-dress (including the usual competition for most tenuous connection to the Christmas story), carols, story-telling and hilarity as we act out the nativity together — with anyone and everyone taking part! Come along and join us from 10am for a 10:30am start…Harborne isn’t going to know what’s hit it!

Christmas Day

Monday 25th December: With our own home comes the opportunity to gather together on Christmas Day itself, and so we’ll be meeting on the big day for a shorter service with a 10:30am start.

Christmas Socials

Christmas is a great time to get together and celebrate with one another another, and a number of different groups throughout the church will be gathering to do that at different points over the next month. Our Engage Youth are going Rock Climbing on Friday 1st December, the Women of Oasis will be meeting 7:30pm at Walkers Heath Farm (B38 0BN) on Saturday 2nd December (bring a plate of Christmassy nibbles and bottle, along with a wrapped gift costing no more than to £2 for our lucky dip gift sack!), and Momentum Students & 20s will be having their Christmas social on Friday 8th December with mince pies and mulled wine at the Blaber’s. Lots to look forward to!

Other Key Dates

There will be no meetings on Sunday 24th December and Sunday 31st December as we take a break over the New Years period, before we return again on Sunday 7th January. A week later, on Sunday 14th January, we’ll have our annual ‘Vision Sunday’, looking back at the journey of the last 18 years and on to what God’s been speaking about for 2018. The week after that, Sunday 21st January, will see our Afternoon Meeting starting back up again.

Reverse Advent Calendar

As many of you will know, each month on the first Sunday of the month, we collect items to help resource a local Foodbank. With Christmas coming, we’re once again encouraging everyone to take part in a “Reverse Advent Calendar”. Basically, the way it works is that you take an empty box, and every day during Advent you add something to the box, rather than taking something out. It’s a great way to emphasise the message of giving, and help to provide food for those who can’t afford to feed themselves. Collect up your items each day and then bring them along to our Christmas Day meeting. Why not join us for a Christmas challenge? A few ideas for great things to add to your box (and that are particularly needed by the Foodbank) include:

Custard (Tinned or Powder)
Fruit Juice Longer Life
Hot Chocolate
Tinned Spaghetti
Rice Pudding
Fruit Squash
Potato Smash
One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
