COVID Update

16th December 2021

As you will have seen, the spread of the Omicron variant in the past few weeks is leading to increasing pressure on our health service and concerns around what the coming months will look like. Throughout the pandemic, we have sought to make decisions around gathering based on love for others, not fear, and in sensitivity to our local context, and we’ll continue to do that. With that in mind, some extra measures are going to be in place for this coming Sunday, at our Nativity Who? and Carol Service events.

We would encourage anyone attending in person to be diligent in wearing a face covering unless exempt, utilising the hand sanitiser stations, and taking a lateral flow test (if able) beforehand. Chairs in the room will have increased distancing, and the balcony will be in use at both meetings to utilise all the available space. We’d also encourage you to reduce social interaction and maintain distancing whilst talking to others. There will be some tweaks to the ‘normal’ format of Nativity Who (whatever normal looks like at that meeting!) to reduce the moments when lots of people gather in close proximity.

Our Carol Service has historically been one of our busiest meetings of the year, and so to help us effectively manage numbers within the building we are asking people to book a ticket in advance. You can do that by clicking here and signing up for the number of tickets required. You can either book a ticket for the main room, or for the back hall, where there will be a dedicated livestream set up and full 2m distancing between household groups will be in place. Those serving at the meeting (e.g. choir, band, welcome team, tech team) do not need to book a ticket.

You will of course also be able to join online as well via the Oasis Online Platform, Youtube, or Facebook LIVE, starting at 6:30pm. This really is the easiest meeting of the year to share with others, so why not think about who you could send the link to, or whether you could share it through your own social media pages.

After this weekend, are planning to host our Christmas Eve Communion Service at South Street from 5:30pm on the 24th — a moment to pause before the busyness of the Christmas rush descends — and then our shorter, all-age family service on Christmas Day at 10:30am. The Christmas Day service will also be livestreamed for those who aren’t able to make it in person. We won’t have a meeting on the 26th December, so will be back in the New Year on the 2nd January. We will continue to keep these gatherings under review, and will communicate any changes as needed.

Thanks as always for journeying with us.
