Easter 2023 at Oasis
--
Oasis has a range of events coming up on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday this Easter — moments to pause and reflect, moments to centre on Jesus, and moments to celebrate in the joy of what it is that Jesus is alive. Keep reading for more information on what’s coming up!
Maundy Thursday
On the night before his death, Jesus gathered with his disciples to share a meal. What followed was a gathering of remarkable power and significance as Jesus washed his disciples feet, taught about the Kingdom, spoke about his death, inaugurated the practice of communion, and worshipped.
This year, Oasis will be remembering that evening and entering into the spirit of it by gathering together in a similar way this Maundy Thursday; 6th April 2023. There will be a meal to share, passages of scripture read, communion to take, a time to worship, and an opportunity to connect with others and ponder together the significance of the Easter Weekend ahead.
Hosted at South Street, everyone is welcome, with arrival from 6pm ready to start at 6:30pm, and wrapping up around 8pm. If you are able to, please sign up by clicking here and filling in the form, to help the team prepare catering.
Good Friday
On Good Friday, Oasis is joining with other local churches to prayer walk around Harborne. You can join either at the start (St Faith & St Laurence Church), or part way along the route, using the timings below. The morning will finish with hot cross buns and refreshments, served at Harborne Baptist Church from 10:30am.
9:05 — St Faith and St Laurence
9.30 — St Peter’s
9.45 — St Mary’s
10.00 — St John’s (Vivian Road side)
10.15 — Oasis
10.30 — Harborne Baptist Church
Resurrection Sunday
Oasis’ Resurrection Sunday meeting starts from 10:15am, in person at South Street and online via the website — and all are welcome! It will start with a chance to either catch up in person or say hello via the online chat feed, with the meeting itself getting underway at 10:30am.
The meeting lasts for about 75 minutes, and includes time for sung worship, teaching from the Bible, stories from our community, and news about what’s coming up soon. It’s an all age service, so kids will be in for the whole meeting, and there will be lots of opportunities for them to get involved throughout. Whether it’s your first time at church or your thousandth, you are very welcome! Find all the details on how to join by clicking here.
Alpha: Starting Tuesday 11th April
Easter can raise a lot of questions, and Alpha is the perfect place to ask them! The next Oasis Alpha Course is starting the Tuesday after Easter, 11th April, running Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm-9:00pm for 6 weeks.
It’s a chance to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment; with a free meal, a time of great conversation and questions that make you think. There’s no pressure, no charge, and everyone is welcome — there’s no need to have any kind of background in Christianity, and no question is off-limits!
Each session starts with sharing a meal together, then watching a thought-provoking video, before breaking up into smaller groups to discuss the topic for that session. Please do sign up by clicking here if you are planning to come along, just to help the team make sure there’s enough food for everyone and to cater for all the right dietary requirements!
