Oasis Life

15th June 2015

Sunday 21st June

Summer BBQ: Due to a cricket match at Edgbaston, we will instead be meeting this week for our annual Summer BBQ! These are always great times of fun and community, with bouncy castles and inflatables for the kids, sports, loads of time to hang out, and excellent weather! It’s taking place from 11:30am-3pm and is being hosted at Pete and Trina’s house: Walkers Heath Farm, Gay Hill Lane, Kings Norton, B38 0BN. There’s no cost, but if you are able to bring either some salad items or a pudding, that would be a great help. It’s open to all, and all are welcome, so please do bring friends and family along for what promises to be a great day together!

Sunday 28th June

Morning Meeting: In the morning, Gus will be continuing our new series looking at the story of Ruth in the Old Testament. To catch up with the talks so far, click here and listen online or download. The meeting gets underway with drinks and donuts at 10:30am.

Creative Worship Encounter: The evening sees the return of Creative Worship Encounter following a fantastic time on the road at the Catalyst Festival, 5:30pm-7:30pm at Edgbaston. This time the focus will be on Praise and Thanksgiving — check out the Facebook Page for more details, and get in touch with Collin Wallace if you’d like to be a more active participant so that we can ensure the room is set up in order to support you throughout the evening!

Summer Volunteering

In partnering with Edgbaston, there are sometimes opportunities to help serve and bless them which go beyond Sundays. Over the summer, there are some big cricket matches on, and the ground have asked for any volunteers to help ensure that guests get the best experience possible, and that logistically things go well at T20's, during the Ashes, and on Finals Day. If you would be interested in helping out and showing something of Oasis to the staff at the ground, please do get in touch with admin@theoasischurch.com!

Wednesday 1st July

Impact: This month, we’re proud to announce that Midnight Bonfires, The Sherpas and Alex Moir will be rocking the stage at the Hare and Hounds on the 1st of July for our next Impact night! Kicking off at 8pm and at just £1 to get in, it’s an absolute steal, so don’t miss out! Check out the Facebook Event for more details.

Sunday 5th July

Foodbank Sunday: We recognise that for many within the city, life is really tough at the moment, and therefore there is a call on us to do something to help. One way we do this is through Foodbank Sunday, which takes place on the 1st Sunday of every month. Simply come along to our morning meeting as usual (10:30 for 10:45 at Edgbaston Stadium), bringing with you some of the things listed below, and together we can help resource local Foodbanks within the city to distribute to those who need it the most. Here’s a few things that the Trussell Trust suggest to bring along:

Milk (UHT or powdered)
Sugar (500g)
Fruit juice (carton)
Soup
Pasta sauces
Sponge pudding (tinned)
Tomatoes (tinned)
Cereals
Rice pudding (tinned)
Tea Bags/instant coffee
Instant mash potato
Rice/pasta
Tinned meat/fish
Tinned fruit
Jam
Biscuits or snack bars

This year, we’re aiming to share 300 stories throughout Oasis of how we’ve experienced oasis, or have shared oasis with others. They don’t have to seem big; even something as small as giving an elderly neighbour a bouquet of flowers to show her that she’s loved is something of the kingdom breaking into the world. Whether it’s in your job, or your studies, or your recovery, everyone has a story to share. This time, we hear from Hazel and Lawrence, who shared on a Sunday morning about stepping out in faith, and seeing God respond. Click the audio below to listen, and get in touch with richard@theoasischurch.com to share a story of your own!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
