Small Group Interview #4
Martin & Michelle Thompson
Continuing our series of interviews with small group leaders from Oasis, this time we hear from Martin & Michelle Thompson, who lead a group that meets in Solihull on Wednesday Nights. For more information on small groups, or to connect in to one, chat to Mike Blaber on a Sunday, or email email@example.com and we’ll link you up.
What are three things we might not know about you? 1. There’s nothing that Martin loves more than to spend a couple of hours in the garden or at the allotment. The fruits…and vegetables of my labour are always worth it! 2. Michelle recently started playing tennis for a club after a 25 year gap! 3. We’ve recently started supporting Solihull Moors football team, loving the live sport every few weeks and really hope they don’t get relegated
How did you come to be part of Oasis, and what made you stick? Martin was really excited to hear about a new church plant in Birmingham whilst at Stoneleigh, however then promptly forgot. A year later in 1998 he received a flier through his door, went to the first Sunday morning service and then knew he had to move church. Having been seeking something more, the raw energy, passion and friendliness of real people has contributed to staying for almost 18 years! Michelle’s story is a bit simpler — basically I was here and she managed to get a job in Birmingham before we married in 2004. Although coming from an Anglican background she was also impressed by the friendly, genuine people.
How long have you led a small group? About 3–5 years…hard to say as the time goes quickly and we enjoy our group!
Why do you value small group? House Group, as we call it, is the best way to get to know a small group of people, sharing the highs, lows and taking opportunities to love others. Although we often only have a few people it is great to share life, be real and share accountability. The cat sitting is a real boon!
