Supporting the City

This Sunday, 1st May, thousands of runners will take to the streets of Birmingham for the second annual Great Birmingham 10k; following on from the hugely successful Half Marathon established in 2008. Designed to suit runners of all abilities, the course runs from just outside Thinktank and Millennium Point to Edgbaston Cricket Ground, before returning to the City Centre to finish on Broad Street.

Events like these provide key moments of the City coming together to put on a big event, with a tremendous atmosphere and an opportunity to celebrate in and showcase everything that’s good about Birmingham. For the last few years, Oasis has sought to support the Half Marathon with a live band and a gathered crowd to cheer people on, handing out sweets for an energy boost and generally helping add to the occasion. This year, we’ll be making the most of the route passing right outside our meeting room in the Moseley Suite at Edgbaston Stadium to support the 10k runners too!

The plan is to have one ‘normal’ meeting from 9:30am-10:45am, with kids work, worship and teaching from our Ephesians series, before setting up some speakers outside to play encouraging music whilst we gather to cheer the runners on. A number of people from Oasis are also tackling the route, so we’ll be looking out for them too, and the first runners are expected past at about 11:15am.

On the practical side of things, there are a number of road closures around the ground, details of which can be found on this map, and so please do leave extra time to make your way in. We are still able to park at the Cricket Ground as per normal. Finally, we’ll also be making a real effort to start promptly this week to maximise our time together - so 9:30am really does mean 9:30am! Looking forward to a great morning together.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
