The Hub

--

Over the winter, Oasis ran a ‘warm welcome’ on Wednesdays as a place for people to come and connect in the warm. Primarily, this was for those who were struggling with the rising cost of energy, and between November and April we were able to serve a number of people needing support in that way.

Alongside this though, we also found that some of the most regular attendees were those who now work primarily or exclusively from home. Whilst remote working provides a number of benefits, it also comes with significant challenges — particularly in the danger of becoming disconnected and isolated from others. Simply having somewhere to come and work in a friendly, welcoming environment can make a big difference; enabling people to get out of the house and create a little bit of separation between home life and work life.

With that in mind, Oasis is launching ‘The Hub’, a coworking space that will be open for anyone and everyone, every Wednesday at South Street from 9:30am-4:30pm — with desks, power, Wi-Fi, free hot drinks and pastries available throughout the day. There’s also a kettle and microwave that anyone joining over lunchtime is welcome to use, and the general layout is in the style of an open-plan office, with a central set of desks available to be used that allow for a sense of connection with others. Breakout rooms and quiet spaces are also available for anyone needing to take calls or join virtual meetings throughout the day.

Initially, ‘The Hub’ will run until the summer, with a review at that point, and there will be a weekly event on the Blast and the Oasis website to sign up for a desk space to help the team know how many people to expect (take a look at the calendar by clicking here, and look for ‘The Hub’ events to sign up for a particular week). There’s no charge, although if you would like to make a donation to support the work of the church, a giving point is available in the building, or you can find out more by clicking here for the ‘Home’ section of the Oasis website.

So, if you usually work from home but fancy changing your environment, connecting with others, and enjoying working in a beautiful historic space, come and join in!
