Over the weekend of 21st-23rd June 2024, it’s time for the π—’π—”π—¦π—œπ—¦ π—•π—œπ—š π—ͺπ—˜π—˜π—žπ—˜π—‘π—— β€” a couple of days to enjoy time with one another and time with God, set in the beautiful surroundings of The Greenhouse at Barnes Close on the edge of the city.

This weekend is part of a year of celebrations for the 25th birthday of Oasis church in 2024; open to everyone in the Oasis community, and completely free to enjoy. There’ll be a range of activities taking place on the Saturday, before an open-air service on the Sunday morning (replacing our usual meeting at South Street). See below for a timetable of the weekend!

This isn’t a weekend β€˜away’ in the sense that we’re staying away β€” the expectation is that most people will stay at home and travel over on the Saturday and Sunday β€” but it is an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and spend some dedicated time enjoying being a community together and reflecting on 25 incredible years as Oasis.

If you are planning to come along, please sign up by clicking here β€” this is just to help with catering, particularly on the Saturday.

Friday 21st June

  • Engage Youth evening

Saturday 22nd June

  • 12pm β€” Arrival and picnic together β€” bring your own picnic and blankets/camping chairs etc, as we kick off by eating together.
  • 1pm-5:30pm β€” Various activities around the house and grounds. This will include inflatables, exhibition, treasure hunt, garden games, crafts, chillout space, a walk in the Waseley Hills, board games, milkshake bar and cream teas!
  • 5:30pm β€” BBQ together, with food provided by Oasis (please make sure you have included any dietary requirements when you sign up to help the team cater correctly).
  • 6:30pm β€” Film Night, relax and unwind after the day with an animated classic!
  • 8pm β€” Worship around the Campfire, gathering to sing together and meet with Jesus around a crackling fire.
  • 9:30pm β€” Karaoke in the Cave, ending the day with fun and laughter!

Sunday 23rd June

  • 10am β€” Arrival and time to connect over pastries, giving a slightly longer time on a Sunday morning for people to make their way over to The Greenhouse.
  • 11am β€” Open Air Service, with worship, stories, teaching, and an opportunity to celebrate together and thank God for 25 years as a church community! Please note that this REPLACES the usual 10:30am meeting in Harborne: there will be no gatherings at South Street on Sunday 23rd June.
  • 12:30pm β€” Bring & Share Lunch, enjoying eating together again β€” do bring along a β€˜family favourite’ recipe to contribute!
  • 2pm β€” Garden Games, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and getting stuck into a range of friendly activities together!
  • 4pm β€” Set Down

FAQs

How do I get there?
Access is by car, and you can click here for directions via Google Maps. For written instructions: from the Lydiate Ash Interchange roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Sandy Lane (A491), turn right onto Money Lane (B4551), then turn right onto Malthouse Lane. Take the first left and follow the road under the tunnel, then turn left and follow the private road until you come to The Greenhouse at Barnes Close gate and entrance.

Most parking will be on the grass at the bottom of the hill, which will be clearly signposted when you arrive. If you have particular access needs, please continue up the driveway where there is some limited parking just behind the house.

Recognising that The Greenhouse isn’t the most accessible venue without a car, if you are in need of a lift there, please first try to organise one with your Small Group. If you are still in need of one after that, please email admin@theoasischurch.com with your rough location in the city and we will try to put you in touch with someone who can help you get there. If you are able to offer lifts, please also contact admin@theoasischurch.com with your location so we can connect you with those in need of transport.

How can I help?
Help would be most appreciated on the Saturday lunchtime and Sunday morning for welcome and stewarding, and on Sunday afternoon for set down. If you are able to help with any of these, please get in touch with richard@theoasischurch.com β€” he’d love to hear from you!

What should I bring with me?
For the Saturday, please bring a picnic lunch, plus a blanket and/or camping chairs to sit on. For the Sunday, you may also want to bring a blanket and/or camping chairs for the Open Air Service, and please also bring something to contribute to the Bring & Share lunch. If it’s sunny, please bring a hat and suncream!

What if it rains?
There’s a wet-weather plan in place across the weekend, which entails relocating some of the activities on the Saturday inside the main house and an adjacent marquee (don’t worry, this doesn’t include the campfire!). Should it be too wet for the open air service on the Sunday, the plan will be to host different elements of the meeting in different parts of the house, with time to move between each and enjoy worship, teaching, stories and connection. All of this will be communicated as necessary in advance by the team.

Is the weekend suitable for all ages?
There will be a range of activities on the Saturday which are accessible for all, and the Open Air Service on the Sunday morning will be an all-age gathering.

A couple of rooms and a connected lounge space have also been set aside at the house for any kids who need naps during our time together. You’ll need to bring a travel cot with you, and will need to stay in the lounge space for the duration of the nap to oversee them.

What if I have other questions?
Please do get in touch with either admin@theoasischurch.com or richard@theoasischurch.com and one of the team will get back to you!
