Since early 2020, sparked by the tragic death of George Floyd, churches and Christian organisations from across Birmingham have been meeting together regularly to pursue deeper reconciliation and unity around issues of racial injustice and inequality. Different groups have come together under the banner of ‘Time4Change’, reflecting the many cultures of our great city, to pray together and to learn together how to reflect deeply and respond appropriately to issues of racism, injustice and privilege in our society.
Churches from Black Caribbean, African, White and Asian backgrounds have committed to working together for the economic, spiritual and social regeneration of our communities; that we might see more of the fruit of Jesus’ prayer in John 17 come to bear in Birmingham.
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one — I in them and you in me — so that they may be brought to complete unity.”
One outworking of this was the city-wide Reconciliation Service that took place at St Andrews Stadium in October 2021 — seeing thousands gather for a moment of unity to stand, pray and move forward together. Following on from that, this year the ‘Time4Change’ team will be hosting a Worship & Prayer Celebration Event on Sunday 16th October at 4pm, hosted at the New Testament Church of God in Lozells. This is an exciting opportunity to gather with churches from all around the city to express our unity of faith, seek justice across our city, and pray for God to move in power amongst us.
