The International Youth Week 2020 was held under the theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action”. According to the United Nations, the aim is to highlight ways in which young people can be engaged at the local, national and global level to enrich “national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced”.

Oasis Mathare joined its friends and partners around the region and around the world in celebrating International Youth Day. Its a day with special significant to Kenya with 70% of the population being youth. The youth of Kenya will be going and driving the future of Kenya. As a grassroots youth -led organization we support youths with various youth empowerment programs. Some of our programs that supports the youths are STEAMD, Digital Literacy and SRH for more information you can check our programs

Youths are the future as the old saying goes. Our future is directly connected to our presence and action we take here know. Youths have the capacity to identify and challenge the existing power structures and barriers to changes. The voices of today to the globe the are the youth. If you are the youth take lead NOW.”Youth are the future leaders”is a scam.

We had lined up a lot of activities to commemorate the International Youths Day. Where we had a youth mentorship session led by Billian Ojiwa Founder of Billian music foundation. He really inspired us as youths and challenged us to take opportunities as they come.

Later on during the day we had the COVID 19 Challenge! Everybody is excited when it comes to challenges. It was a simple challenge which required the youths that turned up during the event to log on to the Text School Platform by dialing our famous USSD *250*11#. The participants were supposed to do the COVID19 test by starting the challenge at the same time and we will reward the winner who had the highest score. It was a really competitive one as most of the youths are aware about COVID19 safety measure. These was shown through there scores from our platform.

Oasis Mathare is one with the world in celebration of the International Youth Day 2020. Hurray!
