Meet 2013–14 O’Brien Fellow Lillian Thomas
2013–14 O’Brien Fellow Lillian Thomas is assistant managing editor of special projects at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Since late 2012, her investigative team has broken dozens of stories about a federal investigation of the city of Pittsburgh that led to charges against the police chief, who resigned, and now has begun to focus on the city’s mayor. Thomas has also been a reporter, city editor and Sunday editor for the Post-Gazette.
In this student-produced video, Thomas discusses the benefits of being an O’Brien Fellow based in the Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University, including getting to spend an academic year reporting on her fellowship project: health care in low-income neighborhoods. She also speaks about having the opportunity to travel across the country and to work with some of the college’s best journalism students.
