Dean Corll was born in Pasadena, Texas, on December 24, 1939. He was what professionals referred to as a pederast, someone who engages in sexual activities with boys or youth. Unfortunately for the community, Corll’s family owned and operated a candy factory in Houston Heights for some time, giving Corll access to hundreds of children. In the community, Corll was commonly referred to as “The Candy Man” and “The Pied Piper” because he often gave out free candy to the local children.

After serving in the United States Army for ten months, Corll applied for a hardship discharge, claiming his family needed him at the candy factory. On June 11, 1965, he was given an honorary discharge and returned home. After his release from the U.S Army, Corll reportedly told some of his acquaintances that while he was away, he discovered he was homosexual and had experienced his first homosexual encounters while in the army. Corll’s other friends started to pick up on subtle differences in his mannerisms when he was around teenage males. Leading them to believe Corll might have been homosexual.

When Corll returned home, he resumed the position of Vice President of Corll Candy Company. He started working long hours to try and keep up with the increasing public demand for his family’s products. In 1965…
