Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) for the World
The Occam Association is pleased to announce our NFTs for the World initiative! In this first-of-its-kind project, we will be minting 6 totally unique NFTs — with designs that reflect the geographic and cultural identity of their ultimate destinations.
These NFTs will be distributed to community-selected mission-driven stake pools, who can use, sell, or hold the NFT for the benefit of their delegates and chosen charities. Let’s find out more about our motivation for this NFT initiative below!
Our Motivation
When building out this unique campaign, we were driven by three following goals:
- Enable and empower our community to fund charitable missions, growing as the Occam.fi community grows,
- Reward ADA holders for actively participating in the project and in mission-driven pools, instead of simply airdropping rewards to any ADA holder,
- Demonstrating that DeFi has much greater potential than simply making money, and show the immense potential behind distributed technology.
So, how are we going to achieve this?
How Does it Work?
Each NFT will enable its owner to mine a predetermined number of OCC tokens over an extensive time period, essentially enabling a new way to create value for mission-driven stake pools in the Cardano ecosystem. We will mint one NFT for each key geographic region and give it to one and only one stake pool operator that operates in that region. In order to get the reward, stake pool operators will have to convince the community that it is them who benefits the community or society in large the most.
These NFTs, like any other Cardano native asset, can be traded and used by any other participant, essentially creating a valuable, reward-generating digital asset for the most dedicated mission-driven pools to get.
Who is eligible?
We will be creating a single NFT for each key geographic area worldwide — with 6 NFTs minted in total. The Cardano community can vote on which mission-driven pool from each geographic area gets to hold the NFT. There are no selection criteria which we will offer, this is totally community-driven and led. We expect that those mission-driven pools that are focused on the most worthy causes will be more likely to be chosen to receive an NFT.
The geographic areas each token will be minted for include:
- Africa,
- South America,
- North America,
- Oceania,
- Asia,
- Europe.
We want each NFT to include unique artwork tailored to their location. We particularly welcome submissions from local artists with a connection to the geographic region in which they are creating for! Rewards in OCC will also be given to the successful artist.
How does it work?
These NFTs for mission-driven stake pool operators will work through the following steps:
- An artwork is created by an artist for a specific geographic region, and made into a non-fungible token,
- An allocation of OCC tokens will be released from the OCC liquidity mining pool and vested on a long-term basis into a new NFT-specific liquidity pool,
- The owner of the NFT can mint and periodically claim the OCC tokens from the NFT-specific liquidity pool. The minting is initiated by staking the NFT,
- As mentioned above, only 6 such NFTs will ever be created, with a predetermined amount of OCC tokens allocated to each,
- NFTs are rewarded according to community voting to block producers, one per target geography. We may leverage the already purpose-built Project Catalyst platform to facilitate this voting process. The actual selection criteria will be mostly up to community, but the general narrative is focused on block producers’ contribution to social causes,
The NFT will be granted to a particular stake pool operator based on the results of a community poll. It is then up to the selected stake pool operator as to what they decide to do with both the OCC mined, and the NFT itself. Arguably, there will be both intrinsic value in the NFT as a piece of art, and for its ability to mine OCC from the allocated amount.
We anticipate that the OCC mined could be used as an airdrop to those who delegate to the mission driven pool, thereby increasing pool delegates and increasing the block rewards that can be donated to charity. Or, the mined OCC could be given directly to charities through payment gateways or conversion to fiat — the choice is with the holder!
What is in store for the future?
As we grow, we expect that many such sets of NFTs will be issued following the same logic, albeit for different causes. Some will be awarded to community members who have done a lot for community causes, and others will be awarded to the brightest and most talented developers making the most significant contributions to Cardano’s codebase.
