Influence by Arizona psychology professor Robert Cialdini has sold over 5 million copies. While Cialdini does not discuss the implementation of advanced or specialized techniques, his canonical observations should be absorbed by every serious marketer. (38)

These psychological principles are universal and timeless, but Cialdini was the first to lay them bare for all to see. When we look at mass media later in this report, what we will see in essence is the technologically supercharged application of these classic principles of influence.

Successfully infiltrating many major sales organizations, he learned the compliance tactics of door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesmen, public relations professionals, fund-raising agencies, and numerous other companies committed to making us, the consumers with money to spend, quickly say “yes” to them.
