3. Studio Monitors
Studio monitors are high quality speakers designed for a recording studio. The main difference between a monitor and another speaker is the attention to precision.
When you listen to a mix, you (as recording engineer) need to know exactly what is there or the mix will not work well.

5. Headphones
When you’re just starting out, most of your time is spent recording by yourself.
Which is why in the beginning, all you really need is one pair of headphones.
For studio purposes, there are 2 very specific designs considered standard:
- Closed back headphones for tracking — which offer optimal isolation at the expense of lesser sound quality.
2. Open back headphones for mixing — which offer optimal sound quality at the expense of lesser isolation.
6. XLR Cables
One day, your studio will have a TONS of different cables…But for now, you only need 3:
- 1 long XLR cable for your mic, and…
- 2 short ones for your monitors
For a standard project studio in a small 10×10 room, these are the EXACT ones I recommend:
- Mogami Silver XLR 25ft (1x) (for your mic)(Amazon/GuitarC/MusiciansF)
- Mogami Silver XLR 6ft (2x) (for your monitors)
8. Pop Filter
A pop filter or pop shield is a noise protection filter for microphones, typically used in a recording studio. It serves to reduce or eliminate ‘popping’ sounds caused by the mechanical impact of fast moving air on the microphone during recorded speech and singing.
9.Sound Edit Software
This audio editing software is a full-featured professional audio and music editor for Windows and Mac. It lets you record and edit music, voice and otheraudio recordings. When editing audio files, you can cut, copy and paste parts of recordings, and then add effects like echo, amplification and noise reduction
