Octopus 2.0 AMA — Nearity X Octopus Network
On July 14th, 2023, at 2AM UTC, Nearity co-hosted a Twitter Space AMA event themed “Octopus 2.0” with Octopus Network. The host, Landon, had a conversation with Vivi Lin, a partner of Octopus Network, to discuss the Octopus 2.0 and dive deep into the two key aspects of $NEAR Restaking and NEAR IBC.

This AMA event attracted many audiences from the ecosystem, with a peak participation of 2,288 listeners, indicating the high attention and importance attached to Octopus 2.0 by the community.
Vivi discussed Octopus Network’s role as a critical NEAR infrastructure, facilitating the operation of application-specific blockchains, or “appchains”. She emphasized Octopus Network’s mission to help Web3 applications succeed by providing shared security, interoperability, essential utilities and community support. Octopus Network 2.0 plans to enhance existing features, with a focus on $NEAR restaking and NEAR IBC. Restaking is a primitive introduced by Eigen Layer. By incorporating restaking into the NEAR protocol, $NEAR token holders can enjoy multiple streams of staking income and enhance their capital efficiency. $NEAR restaking also has the potential to increase the staking ratio of $NEAR tokens, and internalize more value streams for the NEAR protocol. Additionally, this innovation will bolster appchains by providing a more robust shared security offering. NEAR IBC, another core offering of Octopus 2.0, will be expanded to connect NEAR Protocol with other blockchains like Cosmos; Octopus’s goal is to make NEAR Protocol a significant part of the blockchain internet and create connections with other blockchains, including EVM chains like Ethereum.
Core team is working tirelessly for the launch of Octopus 2.0. We aim to launch the NEAR IBC Port in August this year, and in the third quarter, we plan to bring $NEAR Restaking live, and also be able to provide shared security services to Cosmos chains.
