Advice written by not-you might not apply to you

If you’re trying to build an internet business right now, there’s so much advice out there that it can be overwhelming.

And they are all So. Damn. Convincing. After all, they are written by people that have already had some sort of success.

For a while, I found it tempting to listen to all this advice, until I realized that the people that wrote it, as successful as they might be, are not me.

Successful startups have been built because of a need of the founders, but also have been built on market research. Built by at least two cofounders but also started by solo founders. Working endless nights but also slowly so you don’t burn out.

And it makes sense, since they are all written from the experience of their authors, who usually extrapolate from their own unique experience.

Seeing the advice that’s out there through this lens really worked for me.

It helped me doubt myself a little less, question myself a little less, and understand that what’s important is not following advice, but following the advice that applies to me.
