Better Late Than Never

I solemnly swear we’ve been up to no good over the last few weeks. Here’s what’s new.

Custom RegistriesThe Great and Mighty (and exceedingly handsome) Peter has bestowed a wonderful gift upon us. For developers looking to test new integrations with Octoblu it hasn’t been possible for your device to show up in the list of “Things.” Now Octoblu will check your user for any custom registries you’ve created and show you those devices. Works in the Connector Factory too! Use it for Connectors, Endos, and Slurries. Oh my! Thanks Peter!

Streaming APIs — You know how when you are chatting with your Tesla over Slack and a Tweet comes in and needs to honk the horn, but you’re polling so it’s kinda slow? Yeah I know how that is. Well, we made that much easier. You can now easily connect streaming APIs to Octoblu and have them stream messages into your flow in near real-time. No more polling, no more searching Twitter history. It makes your flows simpler, happier, and better for the environment. If you want to connect your own streaming API, we’ll have a tutorial out soon-ish. For the brave and true, you can use generator-slurry to get started.

Pssst…

You’ve made it this far, loyal reader, so I’ll let you in on a secret. There is a secret feature in the Octoblu designer. Typically you have been limited to only passing messages to a device. If you wanted a flow to respond to configuration changes, or change the configuration of a device, it wasn’t possible. Now you can! For the moment, this is a hidden feature that you need to unlock. Check out this article on how to do it.
