The TV that the company from Cupertino could launch!

HomeScreen is a concept that takes a complete new approach to the TV. Until now the television set is mostly known as a big and ‘dumb’ screen taking center stage in your living room. As we have Smart TVs entering our home they are called Smart, because they can now connect to the internet but they don’t interact with the area they are in or the people that are in the room.

With the smart home becoming a reality, the TV should fit into this ecosystem in a way that takes into account each family members needs. When you see the TV as a connected screen in a central place in your home, it can truly become the HomeScreen for every family member.

Welcome to your new HomeScreen

HomeScreen is a concept which ended up as this working prototype. We want to share this with the world and show you our ideas of a user centric approach to a ’Smart TV’. We first started this design process on paper and got so excited that we decided to make one!

The Capitals is an Amsterdam based digital product and design agency focussing on products that people love to use. We work for strong brands with bold ambitions, and help them shape the future of their digital products and services.

Our concept shows that the television set of the future should appear only when needed, by taking to all the other sensors in the room the TV will appear, or because the TV is started by a user through its smartphone.

Using the TV as a ‘screen on demand’ and automatically appearing when needed is a great step forward in getting rid of the permanent black spot in your room.

Connecting the TV to all your cloud services and personal information could also make the TV your central point of communication for the family. Talk to your TV anytime you like, you could call your TV Alexa, OkGoogle, Siri or Cortana if thats your favourite name ;)

Game consoles have created a great second use for the big screen in your room, but besides this the TV screen is still dominated by video content. This video content (live or on-demand) via your cable provider or Over-The-Top is consumed on so many other screens these days that the TV screen can and should be used in a more creative and useful way.

Lets hope the TV industry will take note and come up with more creative ways of seducing us to buy a new TV. The Capitals has some ideas about that, so don’t hesitate to contact us ;)
