The German painter Carl Spitzweg
succeeded in mastering the art of romantic painting with his gorgeous pieces.
His contribution to the Biedermeier era is that of one of the period’s most important artists.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
― Eleanor Roosevelt
Born in the 19th century Kingdom of Bavaria, Carl began as a pharmacist before receiving a large inheritance and dedicating his life to the pursuit of art.
His incredible tableaus demonstrate impeccable attention to detail — with all manner of lush, forest and imposing city scenes depicted expertly.
Most striking is Carl’s use of light in his works, a detail that immediately stands out to viewers.
“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”
― Dr. Seuss
Spitzweg’s work captures the inherent bliss of daily life. It incorporates the fantastic with the real in a dreamy, atmospheric way.
There’s a nearly youthful quality to his artwork as well; a strong fascination with the magic of life tucked into each moment.
