1. Why did you invest in Oddz Finance?
We are big believers in decentralized finance. Moreover, options trading is one sector that is ripe for innovation. After conversing with the team at Oddz, we feel they have great drive as well as understanding of both finance and crypto. So there was a bit of a no-brainer. We believe that Oddz has the potential to drive the decentralized derivatives landscape.
2. In order to fuel DeFi adoption, what issues need to be addressed in the derivatives space?
There are lots of issues that need to play out. Given that crypto leverage is basically non-resource, liquidation/marking mechanisms need to be robust. There are some innovative solutions being proposed too. Therefore we will need to see how that plays out. Similar to how AMMs have changed spot trading, we feel there will be some innovation in DeFi space.
3. What are the three aspects to be addressed to fuel DeFi adoption?
🔹The significant aspect in the DeFi space is robustness in smart contracts. There have been ample exploits in space. Therefore, we will need more evolution before larger players will dive into.
🔹The systems that can handle more throughput will be required. As the entirety of the Ethereum blockchain space is one computer, we will need better solutions to scale. It’s still uncertain what technology will win out here.
🔹There is a massive need for better finance/risk management knowledge in the DeFi sector. There are great tech teams and great finance teams, but not many are powered with the best of both worlds. We believe that the space will mature very quickly and we will see teams with intricate experience in both.
4. What kind of value does your fund bring to the founding teams on the strategic front?
We bring extensive users of DeFi. With product experience at crypto exchanges, we help teams on product or trading related decisions and issues. By leveraging the largest crypto community in Hong Kong, we have a good feel for the everyday users of crypto and their journey into the space. With marketing, operations and trading functions, we partner with projects along the various verticals.
5. What is your investment mantra that you adhere to?
We believe in teams. Crypto is about constant iteration and being in touch with the community. We believe a strong management team is the clearest indicator of success. We like gritty, resilient teams who can move at the pace of innovation crypto demands. Crypto provides financial empowerment on an individual level.
