Succulents are beautiful plants that do not require much tending too.

Here are some top tips to get your collection booming!

1. Do not over water! Being close relatives of the Cacti family these plants have plenty of water stored inside so once a month give them a little water and never boggy.

2. Using a well draining soil will help ensure you do not over water. Try using a 50/50 mix of soil and sand for it to work perfectly.

3. Underwatering can also be a problem in the growing season, this is when the plants use most of the water. You can tell when a plant is underwatered as the growth will slow and then leaves will start to fall as the plant is using its own water source.

4. Do not throw away leaves if they fall off! Place them on growing medium and in a couple of months youll have a little baby replica of the mother plant.

5. After the last frost, usually towards May, place these plants outside to ensure they get a good amount of growth energy from the sun and plenty of fresh air.

6. Your plant may take time to grow little baby plants from the main stem. It’s up to you to keep them growing from the same root, or to multiply your plant. If so, cut them to the stem and allow them to dry/callous over and place them into a pot to root.

7. Succuent plants like a bright light so place them on a south facing window — but they do not like direct sunlight and they may start to burn. If this is the case then move them from the spot and prune the plant back and you’ll get some healthy growth reappear.

8. Not enough light will force your plant to search for the sun and become leggy. If this happens, trim the stem to allow your plant to callous over replace in a pot and try a different spot!

9. During the growing period succulents will appreciate a small amount of fertillizer as they will grow more vigorous and deeper colours.
