Baby Girl Disappears After Last Seen in Company of Parents’ Roommate
The heart-breaking case of Baby Melissa.
Melissa Diane McGuinn was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on August 3, 1987, to her mother, 19-year-old Rebecca “Becky” McGuinn, and her father, Robert McGuinn. That year, before her birth, her parents moved into a row house at 637 Lamberton Street, along with Robert Ashley (who Robert knew from work), and his common-law wife, 30-year-old Wanda Faye Reed. At this time, Becky was expecting her first child, Melissa, while Reed reportedly had two other children. Wanda is reported to have a mental disability and functions at the level of a child between the ages of four and seven years old. As such, her two previous children were placed for adoption by 1988, for that reason.
Both women stayed at home taking care of their babies, while their husbands worked, so they bonded, shared household chores, and watched each other’s babies in shifts without incident. None of the friends or family members saw any cause for concern over this arrangement before Melissa vanished as Wanda was very good with kids and quite affectionate and loving towards them.
