Edward and Stephania Andrews left a cocktail party in 1970. What happens next no one knows.

Background

At the time of their disappearance, the couple, both aged 62, lived in Arlington Heights; Edward was working as a manager and bookkeeper for a Chicago manufacturer, while Stephania worked as a credit investigator. Both had been planning to retire within the year.

Disappearance

On May 15, 1970, the couple went to an evening cocktail party at the Sheraton-Chicago hotel, located at 505 North Michigan Avenue, arriving shortly after 5:30 p.m. They were reported to have been in good spirits at the time. Later, at about 9:30 p.m., the valet and manager of the hotel’s parking garage was said to have seen Edward “staggering” as he approached his car, a 1969 Oldsmobile. Upon exiting the garage, the vehicle sideswiped a door, at which point the valet said he could see Stephania, crying, in the front passenger seat. Following this, Edward then drove from the garage onto the lower deck of Michigan Avenue, where he then drove south, illegally, in the northbound lanes toward the Michigan Avenue Bridge and Wacker Drive. Since this sighting, neither Edward nor Stephania were seen again.
