On Sunday, August 4, 1985, 19-year-old David “Dave” Lovely was on a cross-country move with his mother, Jackie Aubut, and one of his sisters, 18-year-old Alison, from California back to his home state of Massachusetts. During the journey, Jackie and Alison rode in a bright yellow Ryder truck while Dave followed on his burgundy or maroon-colored 1978 Model 1100 Yamaha motorcycle with a luggage rack and saddlebags, bearing the California license plate 8N3477.
