In a society where an individual can covet fame to differing degrees, most would not forgo their morals in favor of notoriety. However, as history has shown, time and time again, there will always be someone out there willing to do whatever it takes for attention.

In the case of a woman missing since 1980 which, sadly, remains unsolved to this day, a bizarre twist in it showed that deception can come from even the most unexpected of sources.

The Disappearance

In 1980, Cherita Janice Thomas was a twenty-year-old African-American woman and a mother to a little girl. At the time, she was living in AuSable, Township, Michigan, and was engaged to be married.

On August 3, of that year, Cherita went out for drinks at the Hilltop Bar, with a friend and neighbor of her’s, Patricia Call. At the time, both Cherita’s daughter and Patricia’s own two children were being looked after by Patricia’s sister. The two later left the bar and went to a baseball game.

After the game ended, Cherita and Patricia returned to the same bar. Around 10 p.m., Cherita left the bar…
